John Balogh, Sculptor and 3D modeler

A DIGITAL APPROACH TO SCULPTURE

Welcome to Balogh Studio/ Digital Clayworks! My name is John Balogh, owner and director of the studio. I have been a commercial sculptor for 25 years and have been using digital technology since 1998. I would like to give you a brief introduction of our services to the toy, gift and consumer product industries.

Laser scanning, computer modeling, 3D printing and CNC milling are changing the way that sculptors produce their art. In the toy, gift, and collectible markets, the digital technology significantly reduces the concept-to-market time, cuts costs, and increases communication between sculptor and client.

Working with traditional sculpting and digital technology, Digital Clayworks combines “hands-on” with an array of digital tools.
    Advantages include:
  • Modeling accuracy- The sculptor’s work is aided with the precision of the computer.
  • Licensor approval- Before the sculpture is committed to a wax model, approvals can be made from a 3D computer file.
  • Size and scale can be easily manipulated and production shrinkages can be built into a model.
  • Revisions can be made easily and new iterations can be generated quickly.
  • Most sculptural tool patterns are cut in hard wax by a CNC mill. However, the finishing of the sculpture is still done by a talented commercial sculptor who can spend his or her time on the most important part of the sculpture: the finishing touches that will give life and movement to the character or product.
